Brewery Emperial
About This Spot
Stepping into Brewery Emperial is like finding a comfortable nook that balances the energy of a lively brewpub with the easygoing charm of a neighborhood gathering spot. Located just off the bustling streets of Kansas City’s Oak Street corridor, it unfolds in layers—inviting you to linger inside at the rustic bar, settle outside among the trees and chatter, or nestle into the sheltered patio where the vibe gently hums between indoors and out.
Here, every detail whispers a story: from the warm wood and hints of Old West character in the décor to the gentle murmur of friends and families sharing moments over thoughtfully crafted beers. The pace is unhurried—the kind that lets you savor both the company and the drink in your hand. Whether you’re rolling in with kids, bringing along your dog, or meeting up with friends, there’s a natural rhythm to the afternoon that feels welcoming and relaxed without being sleepy.
Food and drink at Brewery Emperial feel like an extension of that atmosphere—familiar yet inventive, comforting with a twist. The beers invite discovery, especially if you enjoy exploring local brews that carry a story in every pour, like their Biscuit Pale Ale or Char-Roasted Flash Fried Brussels Sprouts alongside a house-smoked half chicken taco. Plates are thoughtfully composed to strike that balance between classic and unexpected, pairing well with a fire pit glow as the evening settles in.
It’s a place where the friendly charm doesn’t come from forced pretension but a shared love of community, good flavors, and a space that feels alive yet straightforward. The layout with its multiple seating tiers creates pockets for different vibes—from casual chats to those perfect slow moments alone or in small groups. This thoughtful layering makes it not just a destination for a great beer or a bite to eat, but a gathering spot where local life unfolds in easy, human steps.

Very southwest type vibe here. Three tiers of seats here, inside, outside, and the quasi inside/outside patio. Has this Old West charm with the bar area. Very laid back and chill vibes here. Great place outdoor for kids and dogs too.

LOVE the impossible smashburger. The different shape cups each drink was quirky and a memorable touch. Highly recommended especially as the year warms up the fire pit is the best.

We were searching for a brewery with a good lunch menu as we were on our way to downtown KC hotel and happy to have found this gem, leaving us only a few minutes drive away from the hotel in Power and Light District. Husband had Smashburger and said it deliciously hit the spot (maybe a little too cheesy for his preference bit he wasn't complaining). I had the Turkey Club which was perfectly toasted/grilled sourdough with tasty deep red tomatoes. Heavy mayo could be lightened up. Both served with hand cut fries (other brewery menus i saw lacked fries, opting for kettle chips as side). The beer is very good also!! Biscuit lives up to the reviews...I didn't know i liked English Pub style Extra Bitter Special style (and tasted another one I liked at Rochester). Husband had the Brown Ale and Emperial IPA, both of which are very nicely brewed. The server was very attentive. The atmosphere of the taproom is like an old antique shop of oddities in a way. Comfortable with lovely wood plank table tops. Plenty of outdoor patio and play area. Great little KC brewery we would frequent if we were local. Our kind of hangout.

The burger was fantastic. Best I've had in a long time. Everything else felt odd and kinda uncomfortable. The bartender was odd, but not as odd as the decor and vibe. I'd go back but the over-the-top hipsterness would definitely keep me from being a regular. Maybe play a song someone has heard before, ever.

Great atmosphere indoor and outdoor space , very dog friendly, and great food and local beer . We highly recommend trying the beer called The Biscuit - they have a Stein option which is about 1.5 beers so it’s the perfect amount for an afternoon drink. We love the fish n chips , they have vegan options , and Quinn loves the chicken nuggets. -Mark Allen

We enjoy going as a family for breakfast. The family that owns the place is great! Fantastic seasonal beers brewed on location. I'm happy to see the beer available at local grocery stores.

Brewery Emperial is such a particular place. The beer is excellent, of course (get the Biscuit, if it’s your first time.) However, their food, space, and service are so much better than they need to be. They have a classic smash burger that is incredible. More importantly, the brewery has somehow created an environment that is incredibly inclusive and open/safe for everyone. This shows a lot of care and kindness has been shown here over many years. It’s no accident.

Friendly staff. Food was good but that green sauce made it That needs to go on everything. Love the space. Had indoor, outside under shelter and plain outside seating. Great for summer nights. We went for brunch on a cold day though. It was cozy.
